Not napping during day

Anyone else have a LO that does not sleep at all during the day? She naps for about 2 hours during the day, and that's it.  She's wide awake most the day and cries the majority of the day.   It's VERY frustrating and I personally can't get much done because I'm always trying to comfort her.

Re: Not napping during day

  • My baby is starting to be like this but she doesn't really cry she just whines. For the past few nights she hasn't been sleeping that well either so I think now she's overtired and grouchy.

  • My son is the kind of catnapping!!!  he naps here & there...I'm finally getting him to nap for an hour or more after lots & lots of comforting..keep it up!!

  • Most times comforting doesn't help mine though... which is even more frustrating.

  • Oh, I'm sorry, that sucks.  I don't really have any advice for you, except to say it won't last forever.  But keep trying new things, you may find something that works for you.

  • Have you tried wearing her? Sometimes the rocking motion as you walk helps comfort them and lull them to sleep, and if nothing else, at least you can get a few things done!

This. I just figured out that LO has been desperately tired in the day but unable to nap, so I help him sleep by wearing him, running an errand (the car sometimes gets him asleep) or nursing and then holding him for as long as my back and arms can handle. He is so much happier when he naps more than catnaps!

  • I'd do whatever it tookto get three naps in. Wear her, hold her, go fir a walk or a drive. At this point, it's more important that she's sleeping (and clearly she needs it, or she wouldn't be so cranky!) than to get her to sleep on her own,

  • I feel your pain.  My DD is like this, too.  I can often get her to fall asleep in my arms, but as soon as I lay her down in her crib, she wakes up.  Sometimes she can put herself back to sleep, but she usually only naps for maybe 20-30 minutes at a time.  A lot of the time when she's awake, she's fussy.  I'm guessing it's mostly because she's overtired.  She always falls asleep when I have her in her carseat, but I can't see myself driving around town all the time to keep her asleep!

  • YES!!!  LO is definitely a cat-napper at best.  The most I usually get out of him is an hour, but usually its only 20-30 minutes.  The one thing that seems to help the most for getting longer stretches of sleep is swaddling.  Luckily, he's not overly fussy when he's awake during the day, and he sleeps good at night (4-5 hr stretches), so we just keep trying!  Good Luck!

  • Well, by some miracle, DS is napping on me as I type this, but he is usually a catnapper.  He's finally ready for a real nap around 4:30 or so, which is late and too close to the time I'm eventually hoping will be his bed time.  I never can get anything done either because he always seems to be looking for comfort or attention. And by the time 4:30 rolls around, I need a nap too!  Hoping this is just a phase.
