Today, Liam had to be seen for a sick visit on his one month birthday:( The entire family has a cold and he was running a fever yesterday and all last night. Our pediatrician placed the stethoscope on Liam's chest and asked if he had always had a murmur. UM, NO! He then told me not to panic because it was probably a VSD closing down because it sounded like a flowing murmur that he could hear all over. And since it wasn't detected at any of his other assessments and apparently they get louder as they close until they are totally closed, he just felt confident it wasn't anything to be too concerned over. Mentioned that it is common etc etc. I'm not totally surprised as we've been thru this before with my oldest who has a functional, rhythmic murmur. However I am hyper-sensitive with my little guy because he is brand new and I worry about him!
But I was just curious...anyone going thru something similar? We see the cardiologist for an echocardiogram next Thursday. Anxious to get that appt over with and praying for a good outcome.
Re: Anyone's LO have a murmur? VSD?
Preia, my 5 month old daughter has the same thing. They found it at her 2 month check up. We've had 2 echo's done so far and the Dr. told us the same thing...not to worry, it's common etc. etc. They wanted us to do 2 echos, the first one after they 1st heard it and then the second one 2 months later, just to measure the progress. None of our Dr.s seem too concerned but, it is something they are keeping an eye on just to be sure.
Hang in there! I hope everything goes well for you and Liam!
Our LO had a potential heart issue that they noticed on my last level 2 U/S. We induced a week later with some issues with her HR during labor requiring a trip to the NICU and a stat echo once she was born with a follow up echo 2 days later. She had a PDA which took a little long to close but had closed by her follow up echo. Her pedi still always takes extra time (at least from my view point) to listen to her heart despite the pedi-cardiologist not requiring follow up.
I wish u luck at with your echo
