Got a call today...some of Cal's labs came back abnormal. Of course, this was to be expected, as it was just more extensive testing based on his initial low Factor VIII. As I understand it, we're looking at a bleeding disorder, but need to do extensive testing for an accurate Dx. Dr. wants to retest everything before she makes a Dx, as blood is so sensitive and things like meds, illness, lab error, etc. can affect the results. So, back we go, a week from Tuesday.
This is all I know:
Factor VIII - 37% (was 36% last time)
Factor XII - 47% (was 43% last time)
von Willebrand Factor (activity) - 22% (new test)
von Willebrand Factor (antigen) - 27% (new test)
Platelet aggregation - 2-3 out of 4-5 tests were abnormal. She didn't want to give me results b/c they aren't number-based tests, and it's all really complicated...and I didn't insist.
Cal's been really cool w/ the blood draws. So, fortunately, I'm not that upset for HIM, but I just want a Dx already!
Interestingly enough, he hasn't had any petechiae (bleeding marks under skin) in a couple of weeks...I made sure the nurse made note of that. Not sure what it means, but it would be good to test when he doesn't have any, as he had had them for 2.5 months prior.
Anyone who happens to know about this stuff - feel free to chime in!
Re: D@mmit...MORE blood tests.
Ugh, all these poor babies having to go through these tests! It's so unfair!! Hopefully this is the last one for Cal... and hopefully you're finally able to get a firm diagnosis.
Daycare is SO exhausting!
