That's assisted hatching...
I am considering asking my RE about this during my WTF. It appeared that my embryos were good quality, they just didn't stick. So will AH be an option for us? Are there any risks to it? Anyone successful from it? etc
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Re: Tell me everything you know about A.H.
We did AH for our FET, which were 5d embies. RE said it couldn't hurt...but in our case it didn't help.
If we do IVF #2, we will do AH on the fresh embies.
The only risk I know of is there is a higher risk of identical twins. The way it was explained to me is that there's a change the embryo can "catch" on the shell during hatching and actually break into 2 embryos.
My RE used it for IVF#2. I just got beta #2 back at 20dp3dt and it was 7279. My RE nurse thinks it's twins.
I just had to take some antibiotics because there is a higher risk of exposure to infection because of the hole they put in the zona. And a slightly higher risk of identicals.
Good luck!
They use a little chemical solution to nick the shell of the egg so that supposedly the embryo can get out and implant.
Ditto cardsfan re: increased risk of identicals.
My RE said they would only do it on 3 day embies, not 5 day--I asked if it would have benefit for our FET and he said no. We'll see about that....
Hmmmm, now you've got me wondering if we should try it Friday at our ET. . . I think I'll call the nurse tomorrow and ask. . . .
