OB cancelled my appt :(

Ok, so I finally have health insurance through my new job) started in January, insurance kicked in feb 1st) so I picked a new OB (I was having to go to clinics with residents because I had medicaid, had a different resident every appt, and I felt like they never even reviewed my chart).  I did my gender ultrasound at this new office the other week and decided on them because the staff was much more friendly, it's closer to my house, and I can still deliver at the hospital I wanted.

Well today was supposed to be my first appt.  Yesterday afternoon they left me a message "Hi Rachael this is ____ and I'm calling about your appt tomorrow, please call us back at ___________" OK well they call at 3:30, the office closes at 4:30 and I don't get the message until 5:30. But I think no big deal, since it's my 1st appt they are probably reminding me to bring my paperwork, insurance, a full bladder, etc.  Well I get a call this morning "This is _____ I tried to call you yesterday about your appt, we need to reschedule, the doctor is out of town." I'm furious!  I took the morning off, am using my pto, and she offers to squeeze me in Monday at lunch! 

So I ask her why she couldn't have left on my voicemail that they were cancelling the appt and she says "we're not allowed to leave detailed pt info on messages"  which yes I understand, but is there a big difference is saying "I'm calling about your appt" and "I'm calling to reschedule your appt" on a voicemail?  The latter would have saved me a headache (I would have just went to work!)  and I don't feel like it would violate my patient rights any more that what she did say.

Frustrated cuz this was supposed to be my 1st appt, now I won't see them until the 7th.  So it will be a full month since I've seen an OB when I should be every 2 weeks I don't even know the results of my 1 hour GTT!!! (my last OB's office never returned my calls about wanting the results, the final straw in me leaving them).

Oh Gosh. Im so sorry. I was having the same problems when I started looking for OBs, but thankfully I found a good one. I was supposed to have an appointment on tuesday with the Physicians Assistant, but it wasn't in their system. The lady told me they would try to squeeze me in and a half hour later, my regular doctor ran over from L&D (which is across the street from the office) and did the appointment himself! I was quite shocked. Usually with my luck, I end up waiting for an hour and a half for some appointment and they end up unable to fit me in. lol. Are there any other doctors in your area that deliver at your hospital?

I'm sure there are, but I've already granted this office permission to request all my records from the last one and I don't want to do that again unnecessarily! I'm hoping things go better with this office, I just don't understand why they would call me an hour before they close and not leave a suffiecient message!  Do they assume pregnant mothers don't work and just sit around waiting for phone calls? They were trying to squeeze me in monday at lunch... hello!  I have a job too!

That's super annoying! Sorry. Hopefully Monday's lunch appointment goes well.

And really, why didn't he schedule his vacation ahead of time? Maybe it was a family emergency or something but I doubt it. Also, how is leaving a message saying your appointment has been canceled and needs to be rescheduled patient information?

I'm so sorry. If it makes you feel any better, not all doctors do appts every 2 weeks at your point. I know I don't have them every 2 weeks until I am almost 36w.

I can't do monday at lunch, i won't be seen until the 7th   There lunch time is not my lunch time and I don't work in town (about 20-25 min drive) Thats why I'm so pissed! lol!
