I hope this doesn't come across as spoiled or selfish but I'm really torn. Let's say DH got you a fabulous pendant, I mean fabulous. However you need to buy a chain for it and you realize that you will probably get limited wear out of it because it is so fancy and doesn't match a lot of things (the other two pieces it matches I have can be worn more frequently). Also you had been eyeing a ring instead that you'd wear a lot more and costs a lot less than the pendant. DH forgot about me pointing out the ring a long time ago and bought the pendant to match two other pieces of jewelry I have instead. Would you keep the pendant knowing you wouldn't wear it often but it was a special gift from DH or would you return it and get the ring? Again I don't want to sound ungrateful or hurt DHs feelings. Perhaps I don't deserve either.

I would keep it. I have a lot of that jewelry from my Dh too, but he's proud of picking it out and always notices when I wear it. It's not my favorite jewelry, but it makes him happy. And I know how much it has hurt my feelings when he has returned things that I've picked out.

My DH is always so proud when he picks out something I like that I'd never be able to return it without thinking I was crushing his feelings. Maybe point out the ring at another time and it can be a birthday gift or an Xmas gift to complete the set at a later date? It just depends on how sensitive your DH is about that kind of thing.

I would definitely return it for the ring. I am pretty practical though, and DH would want me to have something I could get some use out of.

I would probably keep it, while DH would never admit it, I know he always super proud of himself for picking out presents for me, especially jewelery. But I'm also not a huge jewelry wearer anyway so I suppose anything he got me I would only be wearing occasionally. Plus I think it is nice to be able to wear my fancier jewelry (like he got me a classic double strand of pearls for V-day last year) for the special date nights that we have that would warrant me dressing up and wearing the pearls.

I would keep it and hint wildly to ensure the ring was next  I like 'sets' of jewelry even if I don't get to wear them all together often KWIM?

I would keep it. My H would have his feelings hurt even if he didn't say it. It's really about if your H would want you to keep it or if he would be ok with the exchange.
