zantac---how do you give it and when?

our LO was just started on zantac for her reflux. the pharmacist said not to use the dropper as it can cause choking.  she suggested mixing with a small amt of formula.    I find the dropper easier to use...and DD seems to take it well.

Also, being twice a day...how do you time it.  a set time each day, or just with the morning bottle and evening bottle?  i'm assuming it's best to give it before feeding?  since for adults they suggest taking before eating

TIA

Re: zantac---how do you give it and when?

  • DD just started Zantac yesterday. The pharmacist said the dropper was fine if we felt comfortable, just to make sure we didn't put it back too far and choke her. He also said ideally it should be given 30 minutes prior to eating, but since DD is too little to have good sleep patterns not to worry if it doesn't happen like that every day. So I don't really know, but that's what I was told yesterday. Hope it helps!

  • We use the dropper and put it into his cheek while the pacifier is in his mouth so he'll suck it down easily. We try to give it 30-45 minutes before a meal but that doesn't always happen since we're also now using prevacid (because zantac didn't fully do the job after a few days) and that has to be given 30 minutes before a meal but 4 hours apart from zantac. Our schedule revolves around reflux meds!
