I did something stupid... (vent)

So, I went to dinner with my mom today and didn't get home until after 7, only to find out that I'd left the refrigerator door partially open and ruined nearly everything in it.  And the really bad thing is that we just went grocery shopping on Monday.  Argg...  I feel so stupid.  But DH was so nice about it, and that made me feel better.

But then, I opened the mail.  And received 2 medical bills totalling almost $350.  My insurance keeps saying that certain things aren't covered.  So I get to call and have it out with them tomorrow.  I know $350 doesn't sound like much, but I paid $300 yesterday at my doctor's appointment, I owe the Lab $1200 (another thing the insurance is saying they don't cover), and I still owe for a sonogram that the insurance is not covering.  And I just mailed $200 worth of medical bills today.  I don't even get paid until tomorrow and I'm already broke.  :(

Okay.  Vent over. On the bright side, only 12 weeks until I meet my LO. :)

  • Sorry to hear that you had a tough day.  I do feel a little better to hear that our insurance (which I thought was great pre-pregnancy) isn't the only one not covering portions of tests and visits.  I feel like I need a part-time job just to keep up with all the denials I receive.

  • Are they only not covering things until you get to your deductible? I know I get bills from my insurance telling me what portions of visits etc. they cover and what I still owe. I only have to pay this until I meet my deductible though, and then it will just be the copayments. Also, do you have an out of pocket maximum? Because the total of your bills shouldn't exceed that. I would ask when I call them.

  • I've already met the deductible.  The main problem is that they don't specify what they are denying on the EOB, so I'm not sure what's been denied, just that something is.  I only know they denied the sonogram because my OB told me that's waht it was.  And this is all things on my old insurance, since my work changed carriers at the beginning of this year.  And the old max out of pocket is 5000 dollars.  I'm no where near that.  However, my new insurance is waiting until I meet my deductible to start fully covering things, but that's alright with me now, because it's a lot lower, and it's less I'll have to pay later.  I also haven't yet received the bill for my stay in L&D, so I'm already dreading that.  All in all, I'm a bit broke from medical bills.  And it really sucks.
