Two Under 2

Do I need two....

monitors?

high chairs?

We just found out we are expecting #2! We are so excited. My DS will be 20 months when this LO is born. I am not sure about how to handle the logistics, yet. I am wondering what you do with the monitor situation and the high chair situation.

When do kids graduate to sitting in a chair with a booster?

Thanks so much!

Re: Do I need two....

  • We have 3 monitors, although we don't really "need" them (the girls are in beds), it's hard to hear them when they are in there rooms with their doors closed.

As for high chairs - none of my kids sat in a highchair after age 2. We don't even use a booster - they just sit in a regular chair.

  • We only have 1 monitor, which we use for DD. We can hear DS if he wakes up, which is rare.

As for the highchair, we also only have one. We just got a booster for DS and he has used that since DD was big enough for the highchair. He was somewhere around 18-20 months. HTH!

  • We bought a second monitor because the boys' rooms are on a separate floor from us.  We transitioned DS#1 to this booster(which I highly recommend if you will be getting one) before DS#2 arrived so he wouldn't feel like DS#2 "took" it from him.  It's worked for us...

  • My girls are only 12 months apart, so my answer might not be valid for you.

I have 3 little ones that share the same room.  We have a sound only monitor, so we just use one.  We only really use it at night.  And, even then - we can hear them just fine without it lol

As far as the high chair - we did buy a second one.  But, we bought one for the older child.  It is a restaurant style one so it was pretty cheap.  It works great since she can sit at the table.  I don't know how long we will use it.  But, it matches my kitchen table and it is not like a regular high chair - so we might use it longer.

  • Our kids are 17 months apart. I got 2 monitors. DD is still in a crib, and although I can hear her (her bedroom is next to ours), I do like being able to see what she's doing. DS has a video monitor in his room as well.

DS is 2 months, so not in a highchair right now, but DD is very close to being out of hers (which is perfect timing since DS will start solids at 4 months). We actually lowered her chair and took the tray off, so essentially, she's using the seat pushed up to the regular table. As soon as I get a chance to go to BRU or Target, I plan on buying a booster.

  • I use a regular monitor with DS but plan on getting a video monitor for #2, so we will have 2.   You can use a booster from about a year old, even sooner if you wanted.  I'm getting the kind that comes with a tray and attaches to a chair.

  • we're getting a second camera for our video monitor and as for the highchair I'm just going to get the Chicco 360 that hooks onto our table, that way when it's time, if necessary both kids have a high chair but I dont have to have 2 full size high chairs out and this one will be portable so we can travel with it.

  • We've already transitioned Cole in to a booster seat.  As long as it has buckles, it's essentially the same as a high chair.

We will be buying the video monitor with 2 cameras, so it will essentially be one and two at the same time.  Otherwise, I would have 2 monitors.

  • We stopped using the monitor on DS when he was about 18 months, so we will just move it into the baby's room.  Also, DS is in a booster strapped to the kitchen chair.  We have the Graco Blossom, so it turns into 4 different chairs.  We can still use the high chair part with #2 while #1 is sitting in the booster at the table.
  • No, and no.  :)  We started putting my toddler in a booster seat when he was right around 18 months so that my baby could go in the high chair.  It's worked out fine.  The monitors- I really don't hardly ever use one unless I'm outside and the babies are napping, so I say no.
