Sleep pattern for 2 month old

I started out following what my Pedi said of wake to feed every 3 hours during the day and let her go at night, worked great when she was smaller. We were going pretty well on the pattern of up to eat, hang out and play for about 60 - 90 minutes and then sleep til the next feeding.

Now she is just getting little cat naps and wakes up within like 15 - 20 minutes sometimes, not getting good solid sleep and then is cranky.

I guess my question is at what point to you change from trying to keep the going down every 3 hours into more of a morning / afternoon nap kind of routine.

What does your daily sleep routine look like for your 2 month old?

  • I think it goes to 3 naps farrrrr before 2. Like, early morning, early afternoon, then early evening. Or something like that. Maybe you can just increase awake/play time?

  • Personally, I think 60-90 minutes of play time (if this is AFTER eating) is too much for a 2 month old. If this time is INCLUDING eating time, then it sounds appropriate.

  • My guess is that your LO is staying up too long and getting overtired. At the first sign of sleepiness- yawn/red eyes/looking away, etc, you should help LO fall asleep. This should make naps a smidge longer but my LO still basically takes lots of 45 minute naps with maybe one or two longer ones a day but not on a regular schedule.
