We did it just before 2mos. We didn't do any "transition" thing. We just stuck her in it the first night the crib was put together. She acclimated very well.
Im moving into a new house in the beginning of May, so Im going to move him into his own room then. For now hes got a pretty nice nursery that I change his diaper in.

RE: PP comments on not using the nursery. Oh my gosh. We live in the nursery now! She's supposed to be sleeping in a Snuggle Nest in our bed, but DD usually falls asleep in my arms while I nurse her on the glider in the nursery. Last night the two of us slept on the floor of the nursery. She was too fussy to bring back into bed with DH who had to work today and has class tonight. He's getting kicked to the couch tonight!
RE: OP - DH and I are both teachers so DD will need to be in her own bed (hopefully!) before school starts again in late August. We'll have time to work on it over the summer. When I go back to work for the end of this year (a week in April, all of May, and 2 weeks of June), I'm not even going to bother unless she's up for it.
Not planning to move him until he meets the following criteria:
- can roll over from his back to side
- can sit up unassisted
- is too heavy for the bassinet (25lb)
- is at least 4 months old.
I had the urge to move him earlier - when he was 2 months old, because he falls asleep easier in his crib than his bassinet. (the bassinet wriggles a little when he wriggles, the crib remains stationary) But then I read that 2-4 months of age is highest risk category for SIDS, and I'm a little paranoid & would feel terrible if something happened to him (obviously), so I'm trying to be patient. Trying to remember that I should treasure this time when he's so little because before we know it, he'll not only be in his own room, but then out of his crib, and then out of our house!
In the meantime though, DH & I are eager to have access to our closet back.
We moved her at 4 weeks and it's gone great. Started with the crib but she fought it after 3 nights, so she sleeps in her RnP with the monitor turned on it. She's a really grunty and chatty sleeper so I'm so happy with this arrangement! We'll work on the crib again when the time seems right (when she naps well lying flat).

THIS! Our LO has slept in his crib since about 3 weeks. He started bed sharing with us (it was the only way he'd sleep). Around 3 weeks he was able to sleep in the bassinet in our room.... but was so noisy that neither DH and I could get any rest! That's when he got moved to his own room... and it's been great ever since! He did a pretty good job transitioning!
