Success after IF

did Zofran NOT work for anyone?

I've been taking it for the past 10 days or so, only when absolutely necessary. My nauseau is INSANE, and the Zofran seems to help it, but definately doesn't take it away.

Did it not work for anyone else? Or, am I just expecting it to be a miracle drug and take away all the morning/noon/night sickness??

Re: did Zofran NOT work for anyone?

  • Zofran didn't do a thing for me. I tried the dissolve tabs and when that didn't work they tried giving it to me through my picc line which did nothing either.  The only thing that helped me at all was if I took phenegran at night I could usually eat a little something in the morning.  Along those lines towards the end of my pregnancy when it finally let up I did B12 and unisom at night and that helped also so maybe you could try that in combination with the zofran if your doc would ok it.

  • Well, I say it worked for me - but I considered the day a success if I was "just" nauseous and didn't actually throw up :)  Sad!

Also, you didn't ask for unsolicited advice, so forgive me, but when my sickness was at its worse I took zofran all day long, as often as I was allowed, as a preventive.  Of course listen to your dr., but I personally don't see any need to take it only when absolutely necessary, like you said.  I kept it on my nightstand and took it in the a.m., then snoozed and went back to sleep while I let it work!

eta:  Are you on the 4mg or 8 mg?

  • One of my friends is pregnant with twins and zofran does not work for her.  I am taking it right now and it works for me.  How many pills do you take a day?  I take 3.  It makes me feel about 75% better.

     Hope you feel better soon!

  • With Ella, it didn't work at all, not one bit.  This time, it curbed my nausea a bit.

Knowing how bad m/s sucks, I'm so sorry you are going through this.

  • I have a cousin who took zofran and protonics regularly throughout her pregnancy. she did not wait to feel badly after a while, she just took it regularly ( as often as possible) and kept at it through her pregnancy. It was the only way she could keep anything in, and carry on with any semblance of a normal life.
  • I can take it 3x day, I'm  just trying not to. Maybe I should, I can at least see if it helps. My pills are 4mg.

Thanks for all of the input. I guess before I complain to much I should take the max dose and see if that helps. thanks!

Definitely!  I took the max dose as often as allowed and, while things were still somewhat miserable, it did let me get out of the house and function as a somewhat normal human being :)

My MFM said that the next step would be to mix the zofran with phenegran (sp?), which I really wanted to avoid since phenegran knocks me out and the reason I wanted to feel better was so that I could work and etc.

    GL!

  • TMI POST.

It did NOTHING for me, except make me constipated beyond belief. I remember having to poop so bad that i was laying in bed crying in pain just hoping to poop the bed (literally). I couldnt even walk to get to the toilet. It was baaaaaaad.

I got on phengran (sp?). It said it makes you tired, but I was never tired on it.

OMG, I will not go into details but had the most horrible constipation after taking it for 3 days in a row (and that was only one pill) a day). My first poop post Sophie delivery PALED in comparison to this.

Yup, sound similar to what happened with me. My heart was racing, I was soaked in sweat and in the worst poop pain of my life. ugh.

  • I was taking it 3x a day. I still felt nauseous and only threw up once daily, but this was an improvement over how I felt without it. Was it a miracle drug in that it made my symptoms go away? No, but I did feel "better". And ditto the constipation. That was evil.
