Baby Names

DH just suggested a new one

Not sure about it, but I don't think it's horrible either.

Teagan Shane-Gaelic, means Little Poet

DH is Irish so that is a plus for it, in addition I like how it sounds with Shane which will be the MN.  Is it too feminine tho?

  • Too feminine.  When I read it, I thought you were talking about a girl.

  • I do think of it as a girl name. I've only met one person named Teagan (a girl).

hmmm... I did always think it was a girl's name... so... well... are you looking for a girl's name? Confused with the mn Shane... I don't think that as a girl's name...

oh, and edited: link is NSFW!

  • It's pretty trendy for girls right now.  Which is a shame, because I think it sounds fairly masculine.
  • I thought it was too girly too, just wanted to know if other's felt the same.

  • yep I've know two Teagan's in my life...both girls.
  •  I think it's a nice combo overall. :)

Ditto. I thought it was a girl as well. FWIW, I do love Tegan for a girl. I know it doesn't help you though. Sorry

Agreed.  But maybe it's because my closest friend has a baby girl named Teagan.

  • I prefer Teague for a boy (a legit, Anglicanized version of a Gaelic name). It was actually on our boy list. Teague (can't remember the Gaelic spelling) is a derivative of Timothy, which is my dad's name. Teagan is pretty feminine these days, but I do like it for either.
  • hmm maybe a little feminine but not too bad. i'm just not into the name.

The Irish spelling is Tadhg pronounced like "tiger" without the "r".  I, too, have only seen Teagan on girls and prefer Teague for a boy.

I actually like Teague, with that spelling I would HOPE people would pronounce it correctly too, but I'm sure they would still screw it up lol.

I think for now we are going to stick with Colin.  Thanks for answering everyone!

  • Wait a second, you're talking about a boy's name?

I thought it was a girl's name you were suggesting. I've only known girl Teagan's.

  • There are 3 of us over on Parenting after 35 with Teagans, all girls. I know one boy IRL with the name, and 4 girls, if that helps. I like the pp's suggestions on the male variants, we considered that for our Teagan before we found out she was a girl.

  • Teagan sounds like a girl's name to me. HTH

  • I like the name but as pp mentioned thought it was for a girl.  I do like the hyphenation (we plan to do a hyphen middle name if it?s a girl).  I?d be interested to know what you?re top choices were.
