Mother of the year award : (

This morning Noah fell down an entire flight of steps. It was totally in slow motion.. Horrifying. I couldn't get to him in time. Luckily, he was ok (totally thought he broke something)
And a confession... I really don't like this age.. This independent "I want to do everything myself" stage is so hard. I don't want to crush his spirit... But some things he simply can't do yet. Like..walking DOWN the stairs face first when he can't reach the railing... Ugh.
I feel so bad.

  • Oh my! I have a feeling this may happen to us soon since Sam refuses to go down the steps on his butt or belly. He wants to walk down like everyone else and he can barely reach the railing. Don't feel bad. I know Ryan tumbled down about 6 steps at our old house and I understand the slow motion thing! It was like I couldn't get myself to move fast enough and I saw it all happen. Glad to hear he seems to be ok!

  • I know the feeling, but don't be hard on yourself. It happens to all of us, and every child.  Ashlyn feel down our steps with me on the steps with her and I couldn't do anything.  She wanted to help me carry the laundry and I gave her a shirt to hold.  Biggest regret ever.  Unfortunatly we did end up with a broken wrist, so i'm glad your outcome is much better!
  • Oh no!  Poor mommy and baby!  It is scary.  Eli once fell down 3 steps, because H said something and stupid me turned to see what he wanted.  In that split second Eli did something funky and fell backwards, right past my leg, but I had my hands full and couldn't grab him.

Long and short it happens.  It is a hard stage when they want to be independent but aren't ready yet.  Even though Eli is a pro at steps now, I still get nervous when he does them by himself!  Try not to beat yourself up... you probably feel worse than he does!

  • Add me to the bad mom club. K's done that too.

I was a clumsy toddler (I'm still a clumsy adult) and my mom told me that pretty much every morning, I'd get out of bed, fall down the stairs, get up and shout "I'm okay mom!"

  • If that makes you a bad parent then my mom was the most abusive mother EVER! We used to call my sister Grace, because she was so graceful and would fall down flights of stairs, trip over a crack in the sidewalk, walk in to doors or windows etc... she NEVER paid any attention to what she was doing. We grew up in an older Cape Cod and our stairs had a door that shut at the bottom. My poor dad had to fix the wall behind that door more times than I can count from both of us kids falling down the stairs more than I care to remember and slamming the door open, in to the wall!
