At my last appt. I told my midwife that I'll be away for 3 weeks (my next appt. would have been during that time so I wanted to know if I should come before or after my trip). She said that she'd like me to get my 1 hour glucose test before I go- I'll be 25 weeks. I'm getting the test at the beginning of the week and leaving at the end of the week- so that if I fail I'll be able to come in again before we leave to retest.
I told my sister this and she said that makes no sense because GD doesn't usually set in until around 28 weeks, if it's going to.
My sister did have GD but I trust my midwife and if she wants me to do it at 25 weeks then that's when I'll do it.
I was just wondering if anyone else has heard something similar or has any thoughts.
Re: ? about timing of glucose test
My dr. told me at my last appt. to have it done around 24 or 25 weeks. Since she didn't give me the paper work, I will have it done closer to 25 or 26 weeks.
I agree with trusting your dr. and not your sister. Some people with a family history have to go in earlier than this and it will show up. In fact, I had some sugar in my urine once and my dr. told me if I had it again, she would send me for my test early. Luckily it was clear the next few times.
