Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Anyone else still swaddle?

DD will be three months tomorrow (not sure what's up with my ticker) and we still swaddle her for all sleeping. I mean SWADDLE...we do a homemeade version of the miracle blanket. Her arm movement is still jerky and she likes to kick a lot in between sleep cycles. I don't know when we will stop, because if she kicks her way out the swaddle at night, she won't go back to bed until we fix it. Tell me your swaddle story and if you don't anymore, tell me when you knew it was time to stop!

TIA!

  • DD is over 5 months and we still swadlle.  The pedi said we could do it as long as we needed to.  I am pretty convinced at this point that we will be teaching her college roommate how to do it. Embarrassed

  • We're still swaddling and like twatley, we'll probably be doing it until Lilly's in college. ;-)

But seriously, this is one of those Bump things that people get all nutty about but isn't that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. You can try breaking her of it by trying to leave 1 arm out, then the other.

But honestly, it's my opinion that if it's helping your baby sleep, let the baby freaking sleep.

  • We still use the swaddleme, every night. DD can only make it about an hour without a swaddle before she wakes. With the swaddle she sleeps a solid 8 hours or more. Our pedi said there is no reason to break her from it right now, so we let her have it.
  • We do and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

  • Ours will be six months next week and we still swaddle. Without it she pulls her paci out.  I think we will swaddle until she learns to replace the paci on her own.

Oh, I didn't mean that I wanted to break her of it anytime soon! Right now she sleeps anywhere from 8-11 hours swaddled, and I wouldn't give that up for anything! I just wanted to see if there were other people out there still swaddling at this stage! I laughed at PP post about college and swaddling!

  • DS will be 5 months tomorrow and we still swaddle.  He usually has one or both arms out by morning, but it doesn't see to bother him.  He does still startle if I lay him in his crib w/out swaddling.  (I've tried it for naps)  But doesn't matter to me, we will swaddle as long as we need to.  hopefully not in college like pp said. lol =)

  • DD is 4 months old and she hated being swaddled starting about 8 weeks or so.  She screamed like someone was hurting her when swaddled. She would wiggle so much, as soon as she would break free or I would loosen her up she would calm right down   I HATED that she wasnt swaddled!  I felt like she needed it, but she let me know loud and clear that she didnt need nor want it.  So I went with it.....I am a firm believer with going with your "gutt" and taking the babies lead (with things like this at the very least)... if its not broke don't fix it!  I would think if they can roll over while swaddled it might be time to stop since I'd imagine it would be harder to move if LO ended up on her tummy.... but I dunno..its just a mental picture I just had....  GL
  • We started weaning off the swaddle (doing 1 arm for naps, then night time, then no swaddle) around 4 months when he stopped flailing so much. At 5 months, the sitter still 1 arm swaddles him for naps sometimes, but we don't at home anymore.
  • DS1 was swaddled until he was 7 months old. He loved it - never tried to roll over in it or anything. In fact, that was actually how we knew he was ready to stop, he started trying to roll over while swaddled and could easily break out of the Miracle Blanket.  We went cold turkey, and with the exception of a few short naps, it was an easy transition.

DS2 is still swaddled for all sleep and looks to be on the same path as DS1. I'm in no rush to stop.  LO will let you know when it's time :)
