Diagnosing Reflux

I am beginning to think DD has reflux. The past 10 days she has started spitting up after every feeding, grunting, eating every 20-30 minutes instead of every 2-3 hours because she only nurses for a few minutes then screams and pushs away at the breast, etc. So I called the nurse at the pedi office this morning, but she never mentioned anything about reflux. She kept asking about cold symptoms. Now she has also quit sleeping this past week so maybe its all in my head, but what symptoms lead your pedi to diagnose reflux?

Re: Diagnosing Reflux

  • My DD didn't have the typical spitting-up symptom, but she had symptoms of silent reflux (nasal congestion, frequent hiccups, squirming/arching while nursing).  While my family doctor was hesitant to prescribe anti-reflux meds, our pediatrician said it could certainly be reflux based on symptoms and prescribed a two-week trial of Prevacid.
