I just got a knock on the door from someone soliciting for a charity organization. I explained to him that I didn't have time to talk at the moment and prefer to do my donating online - then he glanced behind me and saw the double stroller.
Him: "You have twins?"
Me: "Yes."
Him: "Can I come in and see them?"
Me: "WTF? NO!"
[cue shutting and locking of door]
As a general rule I wouldn't invite a random door knocker inside my home anyway, but one that expresses interest in viewing my young kids? Absolutely NOT happening. Especially because instead of walking down the walkway to the street, he walked along the side of my house before leaving (we have a side gate that I can't see from the house, but my dogs jump up and bark like lunatics whenever someone approaches it - so he stuck close enough to the side of the house for at least that long).
I'm emailing the organization...maybe he's a totally normal person who said/did a stupid thing, but I think the charity needs to be aware that one of their volunteers is making people uncomfortable with his soliciting approach. And if he's not genuinely with the charity, then they should know there's someone pretending to be.
Am I overreacting? Being overprotective? Or would you have been totally creeped out too?

LOL I have to admit, today dogs are better.
I made sure the doors and windows were all locked and brought the dogs inside with me. Probably a weensy bit paranoid, but he really did creep me out!
This exactly. Effin' weirdos. We have a BIG OL' "no soliciting" sign on our front door and STILL get knocks at the doors from randoms. Like men trying to sell beef out of the trunks of their car. WTF? So Okie! Probably doesn't help that we live next door to a retired police man who's decided to have a home based business...as a bail bondsman. We see ALL sorts of interesting folks coming and going and more than once they've banged on our door thinking we were his house. Ugh.

Creepazoid.
But maybe he lacks... social skills? In that case though, he may be in the wrong line of work.
Very creepy. I wouldn't have liked that at. all.

Totally creepy! Who would ask such a question?
DH and I also do the same thing, moreso when I am alone! We live in the city and there are a lot of creepos. We have a security peep hole so if it's not somebody I know (except for UPS guy who delivers all my Amazon.com packages lol), I won't open the door even if they've rung the doorbell many times.
This totally cracked me up - that's so weird!
I do this sometimes too. Yesterday I opened it without a thought because I was expecting someone to come and pick up the nursing pillow I sold on eBay - our door doesn't have a peephole (they don't seem to be used in Australia) so I have to open it to see who's on the other side.
Someone mentioned maybe it was just really bad social skills, which is possible...when I opened the door, he dramatically threw up a hand in front of his eyes and said, "I've gone blind! So beautiful!" To which I gave a big ole side eye, but maybe he's just really uncomfortable going door to door and says stupid stuff. But if that's the case, he really shouldn't be doing charity solicitation...
I emailed the charity so we'll see what they say.
