Postpartum Depression

Showing signs already?

Well, I've never actually posted on this board before...I'm glad you all are here.

I had PPD with my DD (17months old). I don't think it was very major, I just cried when I left people or when people left me. I never thought anything bad was going to happen and wasn't scared to be alone with DD. I would just cry. I ended up needing two extra weeks maternity leave so that I could adjust to the Celexa (I think that was it) It helped SO much and I continued to take it until we started trying for our second baby.

I'm due in 13 days. (C-section).  Night is the WORST! All the terrible what-if's go through my head. I picture my DD getting hurt and not being able to make her better. I haven't had these thoughts about the newborn.

My question is if this is early signs of PPD happening again? Or are these all the crazy "what if's" that all moms go through.

Thanks and again, I'm glad we are all here for support!

Re: Showing signs already?

  • I had PPD with all 3 of my kiddos and it set on earlier with each pregnancy.  With my oldest, it wasnt until after I had her that I got it, and it wasnt that bad.  Just the baby blues really.  With my middle child, I went on meds in my 3rd trimester and thankfully so because I ended up with pre-eclampsia and had my son at 34 weeks.  With my 3rd I started having the depression much worse and very early on....I was back on meds by 4 months with Baby B.  Each time I have been able to kick it and get off the meds by 6 weeks pp, but I would defiantely say YES, it can start before you deliver.

Good luck, I hope you get to feeling better soon!
