Babies: 0 - 3 Months

From 3rd Tri - Am I Crazy? Remind me....

Although this is my 2nd time around, I just don't remember very well what it was like when DD was about 2 months old. I'm toying with the idea of going on a 5 day business trip when my new baby is 2 months old. I will have a 4 month maternity leave, but I would be possibly coming back for this trip, then going back on leave.

Am I crazy for entertaining this idea??

  • All depends on if your BFing or FFing and if you are comfortable with whoever will be baby sitting,
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • Thanks for weighing in!

I'm thinking to BF and fedex the milk back home daily (on dry ice). I'm also fine with my DH doing most of the work along with grandma help. So these seem like OK issues.

I'm wondering if I'll be recovered enough and if I'm going to feel like a bad mom for leaving him so early on... of course I'll probably welcome the break...

Sending milk back daily will be a lot of work as you will probably still be pumping 8x a day.  I would probably try to make a freezer stash for the week before I went and then pump and dump (to keep up my supply only) or pump and store and just bring it all back when I went home.  Trying to get to fed ex everyday would be a pain and expensive.

I'm sure you'll be recovered enough.  I had a c-section and would feel fine traveling at this point and have been cleared of all physical restrictions.  Of course, you can't really anticipate complications.

  • I'm planning a 4 day trip away from dd when she is 2 months (right now 1 month).  I have been building my freezer stash so it will be ready.  I'm planning to pump and dump to keep supply up while I'm gone.  I wish I could pump and store, but we'll be out of the country, and there are too many complications in bringing it back.

  • I much appreciate the insight/advice! I thought I would be OK, but just couldn't remember - of course barring complications as you mention.

  • I would definitely plan to go on the trip. My LO is going to be 2 mos old soon and I'd def go on an important trip if I were ok with leaving her. I also have enough milk in my freezer to cover a long time, but I would also pump and save (not dump) the milk and send it back home before returning home.
  • I think it's whatever you're comfy with! I'm going to the bahamas when DD is two months, it was already planned and payed for. My "in-laws" will be watching her, and since she's comfy with both BM and formula, I'm going to pump as much as I can and divvy it up for the 4 days I'm gone. I know I'll have trouble leaving her, but everyone keeps telling me "it's for the best".
