if you gave up dairy...

How long was it until you saw a difference in your LO's behavior?  What were the symptoms that led you to try giving up dairy?  My DS is extremely fussy and gassy all the time.  He cries when making a dirty diaper and when passing gas.  He also doesn't sleep well at all.  I gave up dairy for a week and didn't notice any extreme changes.  But my mom says it takes 2-3 weeks to make a difference.  Has this been the experience of others?  His 2 month check up is next Friday so I'll give it up again, but just want to know what to look for...TIA!

Re: if you gave up dairy...

  • I have the same problem...my doctor told me it would be a couple of weeks before I saw a difference as well...I have now given up dairy (and caffeine again) for about a week.  I am seeing a difference, but not in the amount of gas.  DD is still just as gassy, but she seems to be handling/passing it better.  How old is your LO?

  • I'm eating a completely bland diet; this is all I eat: oatmeal, bread, fruit, chicken, potatoes, rice milk and sweet potatoes. When I started the bland diet with Lo #1, I saw a difference in a couple of days. You really have tocheck ingredients and cant eat any dairy at all. At 5 months, I was able to eat everything again.

This is how things went for us. We use Mylicon for the times when we know she gets gassy (early morning and evening). She has been doing considerably better since going dairy-free 3 wks ago.

This is us too. I also have a bland diet, but I can eat raw and cooked carrots. I can have ONE glass of sweet tea a day (steeped for only 3 min to decrease the amount of caffeine in it, score) and I can have a dab of bbq sauce with my chicken. I can't have cheese, but I can have mayo in small amounts and I can eat avocados- which I mush up and replace mayo with too. It's pretty good.
