Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Rock and Play Sleeper Question

I registered for the Fisher Price Rock & Play Sleeper, hoping our baby could sleep in this next to our bed (instead of a bassinet).  Now I have doubts about putting the baby in this to sleep throughout the night.  Can someone clarify the use of the Rock and Play?  Thank you!

Re: Rock and Play Sleeper Question

  • We've been using the rock 'n play sleeper since we brought DD home from the hospital-- she's almost 3 weeks old now. We intend to use it for sleep at night until she's about two months old. She sleeps great in it and since she tends to spit up quite a bit and have some congestion, I like that she's slightly elevated.

  • Just lurking here, but I registered for it for the same reason. I have two good friends with newborns and they swear by the RnP. One of the LOs will only sleep in the RnP at night, and there have been no problems. Just like with any kind of infant seat or device, though (such as a swing, bouncy, car seat, etc.), you'll want to be careful not to leave them in one all the time because of the risk of plagiocephaly or whatever it's called, where their head gets misshapen because they're always laying on it.

  • Our LO wouldn't sleep anywhere but our arms until we got the Rock n Play.  What are your doubts?

  • we have the RnP, and i would recommend it to anyone!  it has the baby all cradled in and is on an incline.  our baby LOVED it and would sleep so much better in it than on a flat surface.  we just moved her to her own room and bed since she started sleeping all night
  • My ds will sleep in the pack and play bassinet but not for long. He does like to lay in there awake and listen to the music but that is not good for when we are trying to get sleep though the night. He does sleep better and for longer periods if he is in the swing or even last night I put him in the carseat next to our bed  and he slept for two hours.

I will be investing in a RnP this weekend. I talked it over when our ped and he thinks that since my LO was preemie, the doesn't like the open space in the pnp for sleeping. He likes the boundries that the swing and carseat have. He suggested the RnP for sleeping.

I don't have any doubts. I have seen a lot of posts on here about how parents got some sleep after using the RnP.

  • So does the RnP make a PnP obsolete or could you see the PnP being useful in the future and as a changing station on the main level of a two story home?

  • I have one at my office, because LO comes to work with me. I am going to buy one for home, she sleeps so much better in it than the bassinet!

The PnP could be used as a changing station if the baby is in the RnP but will definitely come in handy when LO is older! They will only be able to use the RnP up to 25 pounds.

  • Our LO loves the RnP and it is the only place he will sleep longer hours. He hates the bassinet! Our pedi said it is OK to have him there for now. So we are planning to move him into his crib when it gets a little warmer.

  • We just bought one last week for our LO, she was just diagnosed with reflux and has been sleeping better since it's at an incline.  It's also very portable and light weight.  I can even carry in up and down the stairs and not worry about my weight restrictions as I had c-section.

i like mine because i have two older kids. one 7 and one is 4. my 4 year old wants to be a little mommy and she cant reach him in there. it is somewhere safe for him to be when i have to go to the bathroom or cant be right there every second.

we have the pnp with the changing table and i thought it was a good idea, at first. but after ds was born, and we put him in there, it freaked me out that the changing table covers so much of the bed. i was afraid of the lack of air circulation. i have taken it off and we aren't using it.

the pnp will always be useful. you can take it outside, grand parents or anywhere you are going to stay the night. and it is just one more different lace for LO to hang out.

  • yeah, you arent supposed to leave the changing table on there when using the PnP lol...we used the RnP as a sleeper until she slept through the night and went to her own room...we use the PnP when we go places...the RnP gets used as a seat during the day for her to sit in
  • We use it at night. When I put LO to sleep in her crib or PnP she just rolls from side to side and sticks her legs up in the air and doesn't sleep. In the RnP she will actually sleep, thank heaven!
  • We use our RnP all the time.  DD sleeps in it at night and has from the beginning.  I ended up in the hospital a week after having her for a week, so she spent time with my parents.  The RnP was nice because it is easy to take places.  We also have a PnP, but currently it houses stuffed animals and various items.  I plan on using it more when the weather breaks and we start spending time working outside.  I would say invest in it.

  • We have the PnP and before DD was born I thought she would sleep in that on the first floor since that is where our master is located.  Unfortunately she had other plans and HATES sleeping in it.  So we use it for storage of toys and things and solely as a changing table for now.  My mom bought us the RnP as a last minute gift while at the hospital and I have no idea what we would have done without it.  My DD LOVES it and slept in it exclusively until a few days ago when we finally got her sleeping in her crib (she's 4wks old).  She does still take naps in it occasionally and loves to be rocked.  I would definitely recommend all new moms purchase one!

  • We have the RnP & i would for sure recommend it!! DD will be 3 weeks tomorrow & has been sleeping in it at night next to my bed since we got home fom the hospital. she naps either on me or in that all day long too. she loves it! it is a government certified bassinet & has the inclined seat which is nice. i also love that you can move it so easily from room to room. i would suggest you get one, it has been awesome so far!
