2nd Trimester

Question about due date?

I totally forgot to ask the doctor this (of course) - I had an ultrasound yesterday, and after all the baby's measurements were taken, it put me at 24 weeks 6 days instead of 24 weeks. I was just wondering because I did get a positive test 3-4 days before my period was due, if I had ovulated earlier in my cycle could that be what would make me 6 days further along?! Any answers or thoughts would be appreciated!

Re: Question about due date?

  • was this your first u/s? Usually later U/S do not change your due date since babies grow at different rates.

  • Every baby grows at a different pace...so it doesn't have much to do with your OV at this point...just like F/T Babies are born anywhere from 5.5 - 10 lbs they gain weight and grow at different rates in pregnancy.

It is by no means an indication of when you will actually go into labor...a due date is a best guess...

  • At my appointment last Friday I was 23 weeks and 4 days and LO was measuring at 24 weeks already and they didn't change my due date. Don't know if that helps or not. Lol. Maybe your LO is just growing at a faster rate?
  • No this is my third ultrasound already but I was just wondering because she's measuring bigger (which is better than smaller!). Yeah I guess it could be that she had a growth spurt or something! She was 9 oz. at 18 weeks and yesterday at 24 weeks she was 1 lb. 11 oz. Smile

  • The same thing happened with me at my most recent US.  The dr. said that when the difference in dates still has you delivering the same week as originally guessed, they don't change your due date.  It does make me feel good though to think I am further along than I first thought...but baby comes when baby wants regardless of due dates ;)

  • I don't think they would change your due date this late in the game.  They probably would see that she was measuring ahead at your very first ultrasound and change the date then.  Keep in mind, all babies/kids grow at different rates so I wouldn't expect that you'll deliver 6 days earlier.  Your LO will come when she's good and ready!

  • I asked my MW about this because U/S said that LO is a bit smaller than my expected due date by about a week.  She told me that unless the baby is measuring 2 weeks difference, they leave the due date alone.  The due date is only an estimate, and can and often will vary by that same 1-2 weeks

  • My baby measured a week ahead at 14 weeks and my due date is the same.  The week ahead was based on a dating u/s done at 9 weeks.  I don't think it really matters at this point in the game unless you're at least 2 weeks ahead, and even then it may not change your due date.
