s/o swaddling question

we are using the miracle blanket because LO is really strong and gets pissed off when he's swaddled....it's the only thing that keeps him from waking himself up at night though...the problem is, once he has been asleep for an hour or two, i wake up to hear him grunting like crazy and he spends a good hour a couple of times a night grunting and pushing and picking up his legs trying to get out of the swaddle. not only does this keep me up and stressing, it's keeping him from getting the sleep he needs.....if we don't swaddle though, he just flails around like a maniac...did anyone else have this problem and if so, how did you solve it?

Re: s/o swaddling question

  • Ellie was doing this so I would gently unswaddle her arms and she'd stretch out and go back to sleep. If she started flailing around later I'd gently tuck them back in. Now she sleeps unswaddled the majority of the time because she likes to stretch her arms over her head.

  • We switched LO to a Halo Swaddle Sleepsack.  It's loose at his feet so he can kick around but still have his arms tucked.  My LO kicks because he's got so much gas, so he needs his feet loose.  It's worked really well.

  • We've been using the Halo Sleepsack Swaddle.  DD sleeps so much better when she's swaddled but started getting out of the blankets with ease.  The velcro on this prevents her from getting it loose.  She also does not like the actual act of being swaddled, even in the sleepsack, but once swaddled she's almost instantly calmer.

  • Try a Woombie. It keeps them from startling but if he wants he will be able to get his hands together inside the sack, which may provide him some comfort.

This, but we use the Summer Infant ones (I like the velcro better, and they're cheaper).
