Can I return without receipts if I show them the credit card I used to purchase the item? Do I only have 30 days? Bought two baby gates that won't work in our house and need to exchange them. Like an idiot, I threw away the receipts. Thanks!
I've heard they are really, really, really strict about receipts. As in, they won't even let you exchange their own store brand stuff for a different size or whatever without a receipt--even though it's patently obvious that it only could have been purchased there, plus you're asking for an exchange, not your money back. So I would say your chances of getting your money back are zero, but maybe someone will let you do an exchange for something else since you bought with a credit card.
I think they have a bad return policy. I was extremely surprised when I was chatting with one of their sales associates about it. Hopefully people will buy off my registry becasue there is no way to return the item unless they include a gift receipts! What PP is what the sales associate told me. They are pretty strict.

We got a second car seat base for our infant seat with DS and we didn't realize it wasn't the right one until like 6 months after we got it, when we finally decided to install it in DH's car. I had obviously didnt have the receipt and they took it back no problem! I just said it was a gift (which is was and they didn't give us the receipt) I'm pretty sure I only got store credit but it was better than them saying screw off. I also returned a carrier that I had used and just didn't like it they let me exchange it with no problem for a different type. I've never had a problem there.

Will they let you return stuff you registered for without a gift receipt? I've always heard this about target so I'm always really careful to include a gift receipt, but I don't always do it on BRU returns!

They can return items that are on your registry, but if someone buys something not on your registry you will need a gift receipt or the person credit card.

I just registered last night, so I have the return policy info right here:
1. If you return within 90 days, WITH a receipt, you can either refund, or exchange. (if the item was a video/accessory/system, electronics, breast pump, etc - it's 45 days with a receipt instead of 90)
2. No receipt? It's okay. They can look up purchases made with a credit card/debit card if they were made off your registry.
3. Online purchases have to be returned online - not in store.
It's not the greatest policy, but BRU has a monopoly for this kind of business, so I think they get to write their own rules.

This is pretty much true. However, I was a manager for TRU/ BRU. The policy is strict but I know from personal experience that different stores/ managers are more lenient than others. For instance, we're not supposed to return opened breast pumps unless it was defective and for even exchange (a new of the same). If someone came in with one and explained to me that the pump didn't work well enough for them I'd let them pick another or get store credit.
BRU does return online purchases but you only get store credit (that is actually company policy). Some stores only return online items if they stock them (this applies mostly to TRU and smaller stores that may not have the space to put things they don't sell).
If you have a situation where you don't have a receipt, and the item wasn't on your registry it's best to ask politely for a manager and explain calmly. Some items that are extremely hard to return without a receipt are breast pumps, monitors, and carriers b/c they are high theft items and when a manager returns them w/out a receipt they have to answer to someone about it.
I was 10x more willing to help someone who was nice and didn't bark at me with a sense of entitlement. Just my tips- take them for what they are (my personal experience).

Good luck. I hate bad return policies.
