Should I swaddle for naps?

I swaddle DS at night and it works:)

Lately, as he is getting a little older, I am noticing that his arms are getting in the way and waking him AND I am having a very hard time putting him down in ANYTHING.  He often wakes within a minutes of putting him down.

Any suggestions.  I always see on her that some swaddle for naps and some don't.  Thanks

  • We usually don't swaddle for naps but if she starts going crazy in her sleep and waking up we'll go get her swaddle sack and put her in it and she'll go right back to sleep.

  • My post below is about swaddling.  I never did swaddle for naps (dd is 5 weeks), but she was having trouble sleeping because of her arms and she wouldn't stay asleep without being held.  Last evening, I decided to try swaddling her and it worked!  This morning, same thing!  I am so excited that she is sleeping for long periods without being held, that I will continue to swaddle for naps as long as it works.

  • Thanks.

I did see your post below and saw your success:)

I guess I am curious as to why people don't for naps.  We will see if others post.

    Appreciate your feedback

We didn't because we use the napper station on our PNP for day time napping and it has a vibrating feature that seems to soothe her. During the night in her bassinet she seems a little more restless and thrashes around and wakes herself.

Then I read that baby's that are swaddled for the majority of the day lack muscle tone because they're not able to move their limbs as they usually would.

But sleep is important too so we lay her down unswaddled and if she just can't stay asleep we'll swaddle her.

  • We swaddle for all naps and bedtime.  We were having lots of trouble with naps and I think it helps to have the same sleep routine whether it is naptime or bedtime.  So, when we swaddle her she knows it is time to sleep.
  • I swaddle every time I put him down to sleep, day and night.  I even swaddle if I am using the Rock and Play.  He takes 1-1 1/2 hour naps...sometimes up to 2 hours.  He falls right to sleep at night when I put him down.  WIth my first 2 DDs I didn't swaddle all of the time and they had a rough time sleeping.  I learned my lesson and now swaddle no matter what!
  • We swaddle for most naps.  Sometimes she will nap on my chest, or in her swing and so then she isn't swaddled, but when she is in the RNP she is swaddled.  If it works, why not?

  • We do! He naps for about 2hrs when we swaddle for naps, and between 5-8hrs at night. I believe the wonderful schedule that he is on is 100% due to swaddling...he is just so fussy and restless when we try to put him down without it, so why not do it during the day as well as night?
