NEED to get a bigger car... advice?

So our Cobalt is getting very squishy already... Connor's car seat won't fit unless the passenger seat is pulled almost all the way forward and when it's me, DH, Connor and our dog... plus any form of luggage... eek! It's so brutal.

I'm torn as to what size of vehicle we should upgrade to though. I feel like we'd be good with something like a Subaru Outback or some other kind of 5 seater SUV or wagon because we could at least put the dog in the trunk area. It would also be more affordable to buy and drive a smaller vehicle as long as possible. I figure we'd be fine with that even with 2 kids when #2 comes along eventually....

BUT we'll probably want more than 2 kids so should we be looking at something that's a 7 seater SUV or van? And if we get a huge vehicle like that I'd want it to be really nice so we could essentially drive it until it's time to be scrapped. So that means it's going to be pricey.

I just feel like it's kind of overkill right now to get a 7 seater considering we don't know that we'll ever really need all that space and when. I just hate the thought of buying another vehicle that isn't really future-proofing us though if we decide/are blessed enough to have more than 2 kiddos.

Thoughts??

  • We just bought a slightly used Hyandai Veracruz with 3 rows of seating.  I love it. The third row drops down for more cargo room, and Emerson's carseat in the middle seat doesn't require us to move our seats up but a touch (both DH and I are 6+ ft tall).

  • We have an Acadia by GMC. We love it and it has so much room everywhere. We live 4 hours from home and it's great for the trip.

  • I have a Nissan rogue which is a small crossover (just like the murano but smaller).  It fits the convertible car seat fine and we have plenty of space in the trunk for running around town, but when we go on trips it is tight! I wish i had a bigger SUV and I wish I had 3rd row seating.

The Acadia is our fave 7 seater right now! Glad to hear the good review :)

This - luckily my lease is up in April - I am thinking of getting a Dodge Durango

  • I'm having the same problem.  We currently have a 325i and it is small!  When I put the carriage in the trunk, I can't fit much else.  I also have to contort myself to lift the carseat into the back because of the lack of room.  I love my car, but we're outgrowing it even with one child.  I guess I have to say bye to the fun, youthful car :(

I have been looking at the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  Nicely redesigned, but I'm disappointed with the lack of options for the base price. Still not sure what to do.  Still shopping......
