Babies: 0 - 3 Months

fussy time from 6pm to 8pm... normal?

Just started doing this 2 days ago... she does great during the day but gets fussy from 6pm to 8pm.. nursing helps as does a bath, but not completely.  The plus side is when she goes to bed after that, she sleeps 5-6 hours.  Tell me, is this normal for 3 wks?  This isn't colic, is it?  Please say no!  Will she just outgrow it?

Re: fussy time from 6pm to 8pm... normal?

  • Yes - it is normal that babies will have a fussy period and this is usually in the evening. My DD was like this - and still is some days.

It will get better with time.

I wouldn't worry about colic until the fussy time gets longer and longer. From what I hear - with colic babies are crying and inconsolable for hours at a time.

  • Ah yes...welcome to the "witching hour(s)".   DD was exactly the same (though we didn't get that much sleep at 2 weeks..way to go!).   Probably not colic, just cranky time.  She'll outgrow it.
  • Totally normal! DS has his from about 7pm to 10pm

  • A lot of babies have a fussy period each day. For some it is their way of winding down from the days stimulants. I would say that 2 hours each day is not colic.

  • Same thing with DS.  Someone with children told me it is very common and referred to as the "witching hours"

  • Yep. DD is 8 weeks and that's her fussy time! It has been since she was about 6 weeks old.

  • Yes, it's normal.  My little guy does this sometimes - not every night though.  The only thing that helps him stop is to rock him & shush him.

By the way - you have no idea how lucky you are that your LO is sleeping 5-6 hours straight!  Since I brought my LO home I'm lucky if I get a good 3 hour stretch.

  • DS started this at around 5 wks sometimes but not every day.  Its exhausting but once we get him to calm down and go to sleep, he will sleep for hours too.

  • Yes maam! DD will have a catnap around that time though, otherwise we would not make it!
