Working out before 6 wk checkup?

I am very anxious to get back into shape...not to mention I'm going back to work right at 6 wks pp and need to fit back into my dress clothes by then - eek!!

I don't have my pp appt until 6 wks & have been cleared for "walking" - but the past couple days I started running on my treadmill too.  Do you think this will cause any problems?

Anyone else exercising pretty vigorously before before "cleared" for it by your dr?!

  • I went to a 2 week check up do to a c-section and was cleared for exercising except for sit-ups and jogging/running. I'm sure the sit-ups are because of the c-section but I don't know about the jogging and running part.

  • I wouldn't do it. You need time to heal. I actually separated my stomach muscles after having DS when I forgot and picked up DD too soon, and am actually having surgery this summer as it still isn't healed 2 years later.

It's just not worth the risk IMO. At the very least move your pp check up and see what your doctor thinks.

  • I resumed full-exercise (& sex *blush*) at 4 weeks.  Prior I had tried to jog a few times but I bled alot & that was my bodies way of telling me I was pushing it too hard.

Thanks for the info - I figured that same thing...if I started bleeding a lot then I took it a little easier; but so far so good

I'll probably hold off on the sex though - LOL.  But good for you!!  :o)  I still can't imagine having sex yet...however I'm sure my DH is chompin at the bit - ha ha!

  • I started using the elliptical and doing light weights again about 2 weeks PP and I had no problems.  The elliptical is very low impact though, and jogging could be too much.  I would just take it easy while jogging and see how your body feels.
