Activities with LO?

So my LO is about 3 weeks old now. He stays awake during the majority of the day and roots, plays with his hands and occasionally kicks with his legs. I don't have any toys for him at this point or even a mobile. But he can't see that far anyways because he remains uninterested in the two little mobile things hanging over his vibrating papasan or whatever that's called. I'm wondering what other mamas with LOs around 3 weeks are doing other than changing endless diapers, feeding, burping and washing clothes! What is he missing out on? TIA.

Re: Activities with LO?

  • That's about all we were doing at that age. I'd sing to her & read to her but mostly it was me sitting on the couch with her watching TV while she slept. Parents.com has really good ideas of what to do with your LO at each week & what activities are beneficial to them. Don't over think it. Just enjoy the cuddling time! Good luck!

I think this is great advice.  I narrate our day to DD so she can hear me talking and hear lots of words.  I also cuddle with her on the bed and we have "girl talk" as I call it - I just talk to her about different things.  We do tummy time - with her on my tummy and she "plays" with her big brother which usually involves us all sitting together and my DS covering (smothering? hehe) her with kisses and hugs.

We'll get the playmat out at some point + our collection of rattles and younger toys but it will still be awhile.  With an older child, we have enough activity in our house to keep her occupied when she's awake!  :)

  • Sounds good! Thanks. We read to him daily and we cuddle and have tummy time. But he is so funny and feels like if he could he's be walking already! I wanted to make sure I gave him enough and appropriate stimulation. Most of the time he's on me and he seems to like that most, so I let him hold my fingers and so on and we listen to music. But I was wondering what else I was missing. I'm going to check out parents.com.
