VBAC

Need encouragement!!

I am 21 years old and just delivered a beautiful 7lb 1oz DD via cesarean 2 weeks ago. Besides the fact that my doctor was very discouraging because of my small frame, it ended up that after 17 hrs of labor my pelvis was too small to get her out vaginally.

It is my greatest desire to have a big family and not to be tied down to c-sections. I realize that it is in God's hands and His plan is perfect, but I was wondering if anyone had any encouragement or success stories to offer to someone who was "too small" the first time around? My doula said that after your first child, some women's pelvis's are known to change and lead to future successful vaginal deliveries.

I  have heard all the discouraging stories I can handle . . . so if you have heard of someone who was able to VBAC successfully with subsequent children after being "too small" the first time, I would love to hear! :-) I know it's early to be thinking about all this, but I felt I could at least ask around in order to prepare myself for whenever we have a second child. Thank you :-)

  • Hi! Congrats on your new baby and welcome to the board!

This birth story was posted here a couple of days ago, with someone who I believe had similar circumstances in her first birth:

  • My OB told me that I needed a larger pelvis or smaller baby to have my vbAC.  I changed providers.  Just had my VBAC 6 days ago with a very average sized lil' guy.  :)  Wouldn't trade him and our experience for the world.  :)

  • congrats on your new one!

I have a girlfriend who was told with her first that he was too big and they scheduled a c/s.  She had another scheduled c/s becuase she didn't know VBAC was an option and then went on to VBAC her 3rd (who was only a couple ounces smaller than her first).

A girl in my VBAC support group pushed for 2 hours with her first and they told her he was too big to fit.  She also had a second c/s becuase she didn't know VBAC was an option and also went on to VBAC her 3rd who was a few ounces bigger than her first.

I also have a friend who was told she was too small to have a vaginal birth and her doc wanted to scheduled her for a section very early on.  She changed providers and  had her 8lb son vaginally and then had a homebirth with her second who was 9lbs.

    Hope that helps!
