Vehicles for Twins + 1

We are expecting twins in June and already have a 5 year old. We are currently on the Car Hunt. My Hyundai Sonata is just too small for this growing family. What are you all driving or suggest we look at??? Storage and Seating is a MUST!! So confused by all the options...

Re: Vehicles for Twins + 1

  • minivan - all the way.  The auto-open doors alone are worth it... and it's such great, useful space.

your 5y/o can easily get into the back row and you can put the twins in the middle- that's how we have it with our 1+twins. It's like a little party back there- the twins are still rear facing and Griffin is forward facing - so they all laugh and talk, etc... and it's nice that my older son can tell me if they are sleeping or not, etc :)

  • A minivan is our plan as well with the same set up as Goldie. We're hoping to put a chunk of our tax return towards the down payment on a used Town & Country.

Ditto.  We didn't get our until DDs were 5 months old and it's the best thing ever!!  Sliding doors make life easier plus seating and still having enough storage space in the back for multiple double strollers. :-)

  • We're about to be twins plus one this coming fall and we've been car hunting. I fell in love with the Toyota Sequoia but soon realized what a PITA it would be to have to push down the middle row to crawl in the 3rd row, strap in the twins to their carseats, then put back up the middle row and strap in the baby. Hence, as much as I don't want to, I know that a minivan will be super convenient and our best option.

If your DS is able to climb into the back and buckle himself in w/o assistance, perhaps a large SUV such as a Toyota Sequoia, a Yukon XL or a Suburban would be options for you instead of the minivan?

  • I am sooooo against minivans, but we have 1 year old twins & I'm expecting in October (hoping just one :-) ), so we broke down and this past Sunday bought a 2011 Towne & Country I absolutely LOVE it, now.. I'm still getting use to the fact that I am officially driving a minivan, but I got it decked out w/ the DVD players & back up camera & power everything & navigation system so that helps too & plus getting a great deal from my cousin.

We tried many SUV's & tried fitting 3 car seats in them but we didnt' find one that fit & the ones w/ the 3rd rows had no room in the back for storage (stroller).

  • We bought and Escalade ESV which is the same amount of space as a suburban xl.  I have a 3 year old and I have twins on the way. So, far I love it. It has a ton of space in the back even with the 3rd row seat.  It is the same seating arrangements as a mini van. I have captain seats and then a bench seat. It would be the same in a mini van.  I am not someone that wanted to get a mini van. I guess I just feel like I have given up everything else to have kiddos (body, mind, extra time:) That i was not willing to give up what kind of car i wanted.  I always wanted an suv and I am suprised at how much I love it. It really is a personal preferrance.

  • We just got the 2011 Honda Pilot and I love it.  It has all the must haves (rear view camera, navigation, and DVD player for little ones) but our selling point was that it has three latch systems in the middle row, and can fit 3 Britax convertable car seats (I tried with a friend of mine who has 2 little ones + my own DS just to make sure), which allows us to fold down the 3rd row for tons of space in the back.

    We absolutely love it :)
