Have I been stripped?

Last week my "substitute" OB suggested a stripping, and big wuss me asked to push it off to this week.

So this morning I find myself at my 39wk appt with my regular OB, thinking she'll wait to see how dilated I am before bringing it up. It hurt like hell with her hand up there, but the words "membrane" + "stripping" didn't come up the entire appt. I'm 2cm dilated

Do you think she would have done it without asking? Should I have requested it?  Most importantly - what does it feel like when it's being done (would I have been able to tell?).

I was stripped today and had a regular internal last week-   the non stripping one hurt more b/c I had less progress (I was only 2cm and high).   This one was not bad even though I was 'stripped' because I was 3.5, lower, and soft.

It all depends.   I couldn't speak for your dr-  but my dr certainly talked about it with me and made sure to confirm with my chart I was GBS neg before continuing on to do the sweep

My doctor didn't tell me she had stripped until afterward but the internal felt no different than it had the week before (without stripping).

I would think they would ask you first. I thought it hurt for a few minutes after. It feels like a VERY, VERY rough exam. It felt like my doctor was in there a little longer than a regular pelvic exam and it seemed like she was "digging" in there. I would think you would notice, I would.

Thanks! This was only the second time I was checked for dilation - and she did hang out a bit longer in there. Hmmmm, I guess we'll see tonight, right?

My dr didn't tell me she was doing it either. She knew that I would go for it though! It was way more painful that a regular check. She stayed in there longer and felt like she was jamming me with her fingers. Afterward, we talked about what I would experience.... spotting, cramps, etc...
