Babies: 3 - 6 Months

I just quit my job...

Urgh...looks like I need to start the search...my job requires international travel and never did before...a new thing they added when I returned from maternity leave.  I resigned and my last day is March 4th.  I kinda feel like they told me I had to travel to push me out, knowing that I'd quit.

I really hope I can find something by summer....there are so many people searching for jobs right now and I pray it doesnt take me 6+ months to find something.

Anyone else have something similar happen when they returned to work from mat leave?

Re: I just quit my job...

  • My job has the potential for a lot of travel but I usually only have to go somewhere a week every quarter.  I'm hoping I can get out of some of those to get down to just a couple of times a year.  My boss told me that another department approached her about stealing me but it would require travel to India for weeks at a time.  I flat turned it down without hearing anything else about it.

DH was laid off in Aug and found another job in a month, before his severance ran out.  Hope you find something even better soon!

  • I feel for you. I resigned due to daycare issues and my job wasn't willing to offer my PT or flex hours (even though people with my same position at other sites have weird hours). I would hope you at least file for unemployment, especially if they weren't willing to offer you an alternate position. It's unreasonable to expect a new mother to accomodate international travel.

    Best of luck.

  • SnoopyLuv...Could I get UE if I quit?  I wonder if it would get approved...I mean I was pretty much forced out and applied for two alternate positions within the company and the jobs were offered to external candidates...hmmm
  • Yes, at least in Maryland you would qualify. That would be considered a valid "circumstance", especially if your attempts to find another position or to reason with management are documented (I'd suggest asking for your interview feedback in writing) and e-mailing your boss about the international travel.

It's when you quit just to find another job or not to work anymore that's not valid. If you are essentially forced out and unable to perform your job duties through no fault of your own you're fine. I know California is even more lax so I would start looking into that ASAP.
