DD gagged/choked on mum mums...

DD is always reaching for what i'm eating and grabs the spoon that i feed her with so i figured she's ready for finger foods. I bought the Mum Mum rice cookies and she bit a chunk off of it and it immediatly went to the back of her throat and she gagged until i swept it out with my finger. It scared the crap out of me to say the least!

What are some safer finger foods that i can feed her? The dissolvable puffs in the baby section say that they are for "crawlers" DD isn't crawling yet, nor is she creeping...

  • try cut up banana or avacados. LO choked on a puff a few weeks ago. Ive started breaking them into pieces and smushing them a bit so she can get used to the chewing action.

  • She will gag the first couple times she eats solid food. Anyways, I always make sure to break anything up into small pieces - even the puffs and mum mums.

I agree with the PP, you may want to try foods on the softer side first.

  • Totally normal.  The fact that she was gagging is good - it means she knew she couldn't handle it.  Don't freak out - it can cause her to gasp and then she'll actually choke.  Just keep offering and remember that gagging is part of learning.

  • Our pedi doesn't recommend teething biscuits because they are a choking hazard.

I give LO frozen fruit in a mesh feeder.
