temper, temper...

We already knew that Sydney had a temper. We saw it for the first time when she had her EKG at about three months old. Well, now we are seeing it on a daily basis. And it is making me a little nervous.

She wants to be able to do everything. She keeps having issues with falling or not being able to make the toys or books move exactly the way she wants to and she FREAKS out. She was having a problem going around a chair today and she screamed, arched her back, then grabbed part of the chair and shook it angrily. Her face turned red while she was doing it too. This happens in some form about ten times a day now.

This makes me so nervous for the "terrible twos". Think it's because she is teething hardcore with her molars? Please tell me it won't last....

It won't last!  Ok, maybe that was a little fib.  It will change though.  It will get a little better when she has more ways to communicate.

I know it's not as that funny to you but I did get a mental picture of the cute little face angrily shaking the chair and had to smile.

Dana, we went through this as well and still kinda are. It is challenging to say the least. I try to ignore it best I can. Hang in there mama!

I agree that once she is able to communicate more it'll get better. At least I hope that's the case...for us too.

I don't know if it will last, but I'm so glad you posted this!  T has a terrible temper too and gets sooooo frustrated when things don't go exactly how she wants.  We try to let her struggle a little to work things out on her own and learn some coping skills, but can't let it go too long (no more than a minute or two) or she has a full on tantrum.  Glad to hear I'm not the only one dealing with this and I do hope for all our sakes, it doesn't last!!

I have a mini Donald Duck in my house, E is going to be 5 and she still flies off the handle. My other four are almost zen in comparison. I'd lie and say yeah, it gets better, because I sincerely hope it does, but the only thing she is doing better that plain old kicking and screaming is verbalizing. She still hasn't gotten in her head that she's not supposed to do it all at once though, so she's spending lots of time outs calming down so she can talk things out. I hope for all our sakes that they grow out of it before they are teenagers!!

Ellie's just starting to really show some temper...didn't think the walker was going to survive the other day.  She's still pretty easy to distract though, so I hope it's a short phase for all of us!

I think a lot of toddlers are like this.  The "terrible twos" start much earlier than 2.  Aaron started with tantrums when he doesn't get his way around 13 months. Oh joy... NOT.   Nowadays I just hope he doesn't hurt himself when he's throwing a fit. I don't expect this to improve for a while--I have 6 nieces and nephews and knew what to expect.

Thankfully it's not all the time and there are times when he listens. But sometimes he will throw things or himself (on the ground) when he's upset.  I'm sorry Miss Sydney is the same way and hope it gets better--or doesn't last that long.

Sarah is pretty even tempered, but sometimes she gets frustrated and screams loudly, or tries to throw herself on the floor. It lasts all of a few seconds and if we ignore her, she is fine again. I hope it gets better soon with Sydney!

It may be my Ellie is a late bloomer when it comes to tantrums, but she was actually pretty even tempered until about 4 or 5 months ago - kind of coincided with Noah's arrival so I'm sure that was part of it.  However, I will say that as she has gotten closer to 3 she has begun with the "I wanna do it myself!" phase where she doesn't want help with ANYTHING and she wants to do EVERYTHING!!  I joke that I have to pretend that I am paralyzed from the neck down to keep her from starting to get hysterical.  We just keep reminding her that she needs to stay calm and ask nicely for things, and if it gets to a tantrum I'm trying to remind myself to ignore it and try not to get frustrated myself.  It is very challenging though, and people keep telling me it isn't going to get better till she is closer to 4 - ugh!
