Nervous/Anxious about repeat c-section?

I am having a repeat c/s this week, and I am so terrified.  I didn't expect to feel this way since I have done it before, and had a pretty positive experience overall. Ughh.

I am scared of everything from the spinal through to the recovery.  Any advice on how to stay calm and enjoy the experience from anyone who has done it recently?

Re: Nervous/Anxious about repeat c-section?

  • I all of a sudden a few days before became very anxious.  I was anxious for everything including leaving my daughter for a few days (I had never left her before).  The only piece of advice I can give is to try and not worry about it and take it one step at a time.  Try to take it all in....its over quick!!  I recovered easier this time....even though I did have some complications.  I am basically back to myself now (2 weeks post partum).  Your going to be fine :)

  • Well one thing that worked for me is that I watched a few baby stories where the mom had a c-section.  It was nice to see the procedure where the patient was calm and collected and there weren't any complications.
  • I kind of freaked out during the spinal.  I really didn't like having no control of my legs.  What helped me was having DH by my side, holding my hand, and just focusing on the baby and nothing else.

  • Thank you for the kind words and reassurance.  I have spoken to my doctor about my fears, and that makes me feel a little better.  The good part is that I will be able to put the c-section behind me soon, and I am excited to meet my little one!

  • I got to have a VBAC this time, but wanted to offer some words of encouragement.  I was getting very anxious/nervous just to deliver another baby, regardless of how he was coming, but my best friend reassured me that she was too with each of her kids (she has 3).  I think it's normal.  Go in thinking about the fact that you know what to expect, and that you have done it before, and can do it again.  Keep thinking about how wonderful it will be to hold your new little one!  Good luck!
