And if anyone is having problems BF'ing-- I highly recommend it!
Yes, it cost a pretty penny-- $150 to be exact, but she spent 2 hours with me on a Sunday, gave me her cell, we've checked in already today, and I'm going to go back tomorrow afternoon to work on tweaking our technique.
She figured out the problem in 5 minutes. I was having immense pain when he latches to the point of almost being in tears. The LC @ the hospital told me his latch was just fine, b/c my nipple didn't have the "lipstick tube" appearance that would indicate an improper latch, and basically had to suck it up through the pain.
Well sure enough-- he's got an improper latch. But-- his palate is "bubbled" in appearance, so the nipple sits in that pocket & doesn't get the telltale lipstick appearance like it should..
So, after learning some new techniques we're feeding with him basically on his tummy and me reclining back. No Boppy, no my brest friend, none of that b/c it just makes it worse.
He also doesn't get his tongue in the right place at first which causes more pain, so she has me letting him latch on my finger for a few minutes before he feeds in order to help him get the right coordination.
Its so much better!!! Yes, it still hurts b/c he damaged me and I've got to heal, but its just so much better.
So if anyone else is struggling with pain I highly suggest meeting with an LC that can spend 1 on 1 time with you. Its so worth it knowing that there was something going on and that it was preventable, and that someone out there was willing to take the time to figure out the problem and help me out ![]()
If the siggy shows up 2x or with source code in the post, apologies! I keep seeing source code in my previews..don't know what is going on!

I'm so happy for you and glad that things are going better! A good LC is an invaluable resource, that's for sure.
I'll think you'll find that things will get so much easier and more comfortable in another 1-3 weeks, once you heal from the damage caused by the bad latch and your body gets used to nursing.
Keep up the good work, mama, and enjoy that baby boy!
