High-Risk Pregnancy

Intro- (Pre-E)

Hello, everyone. Just thought I'd introduce myself, since I'll probably be posting on this board a lot over the next few weeks.

My name's Misty. I'll be 25 years old tomorrow, and this is my first pregnancy. I was just released from the hospital, after being kept overnight and observed for Pre-E. My blood pressures are high, I'm having the textbook spots in vision/ migraine/ crazy swelling, and my platelets are low in addition to severe right upper quadrant pain. My protein was well within normal limits, but is on the rise. My liver levels were normal enough that full-blown HELLP syndrom was ruled out. The doctor on call signed my discharge paperwork and was just sending me home with no restrictions. My own OB came in at the last minute and said "Nope. Bed rest until delivery. You can still have Pre-E without the protein." so here I am, on bed rest until LO is born. I'm a 911 dispatcher, and my doctor has said that my job is way too stressful for me to do while my BP is high. I would tend to agree, but I'm so addicted to the adrenaline rush, it's going to be hard to be out of work. DH is a police officer for the same department, so at least I'll have him to fill me in on the crazy day-to-day events.

In all reality, I'm very blessed. I'm at 36 weeks today, so I won't have to be on bed rest for too long. If LO were to be born today, he'd most likely do very well. At our last level II ultrasound, he was measuring 7 lbs 8 oz and in the 98th percentile for both head and abdominal circumference. Considering the other health problems I've faced this pregnancy, from unexplained seizures to a cyst in my brain, I feel fortunate that LO is EXTREMELY healthy and I'm generally in good health.

  • I am really surprised that they let you go home! I was diagnosed with SEVERE pre-e on 2/7 at 27 weeks, 6 days. They admitted me to the hospital and kept a very close eye on me. I was on restricted bedrest... could only get up to use the bathroom. 5 days later on 2/12, they did an emergency c-section and delivered my son. I then spent the next 11 days in the hospital so they could get my BP under control. I was just released after over 2 weeks of being in there.

When I first went in, they said if the baby was over 34 weeks, they would have just delivered him that day... but at 27.6 weeks they wanted to keep him in there for as long as possible.

Take it easy and go back as soon as there are any changes in your symptoms... pre-e is really really temperamental and dangerous. You could be fine once sec and really sick the next. Good luck and keep us posted!
