What is going on? Teething?

My LO is 5.5 months. He is usually so happy but for the last 2 days, he's woken crying at night and he never cries. He seems fussy/squirmy and is not eating as much. He's ok during the days except for the eating but at night time he is not himself. The only different is I started giving him sweet potatoes in addition to his cereal but nothing else. I have looked at his gums and they seem fine but could it still be teething? He is drooling a lot more too. Thanks, ladies! Oh also, he doesn't have a fever.
