Gas drops

My LO is 2 weeks old and his having gas. How soon can you give gas drops? I know they say to wait for Tylenol until he is at least 2 months. Anyone giving their LO gas drops when they need it?

Re: Gas drops

  • I'm not sure how soon you can start using gas drops; I started using them with DD when she was about 4 weeks old.  If you're unsure, I'd check with your pediatrician.

  • My pedi recommended gripe water over the gas drops and said it is usually more effective.  It is safe to give starting at two weeks.  It's really worked for us!
  • We gave Ellie gas drops in the first few weeks because she was very gassy and she did well with them. They have dosing for newborns on the bottle.

  • I use the "Gripe Water".  Seems to work great.  Been using it when she seems to be uncomfortable with gas and have been using it since she was a few weeks old.

  • I used gas drops with DS at 5 days old.  The pediatrician said that when can give him a drop with every feeding and that some people "swear by them."

  • We started using Mylicon at about six weeks. Ped said it was OK to use Mylicon and or Gripe Water. We started with Gripe Water and it didn't do much for out LO. Mylicon definitely helped. Our doc said that we could give the drops with every feed but to limit Gripe Water to three times a day. We also switched to Similac Sensitive. He is doing much better.

  • We began using them for both girls around 1-2 weeks.  Our pedi said it was fine to give newborns.  I am not sure if they ever worked, but we used them nonetheless.
