Cloth Diapering

wet against his skin??

I may sound really dumb here, but do all cloth diapers result in wet fabric up against LOs skin?  I purchased diapers from a local business, they are very simple to use, don't require liners or being stuffed, they do up with snaps and then you use the PUL cover, however, the actual diaper gets soaked when he pees, I mean there is not one dry spot on the whole diaper, so it is wet up his back, around his legs and hips, his belly where the snaps are, everywhere, and the diaper actually leaked so he was changed right away.  What I am wondering is, is this normal for cloth?  Is it just the kind I'm using?  I can't imagine so many people use cloth successfully and have such wet material up against their baby's skin.  Oh and I even put a fleece liner in because I've read that this helps wick away the moisture.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, I really want to be using cloth, I hate creating so much garbage and wasting all this money on disposables.

Re: wet against his skin??

  • Sounds like he is ina fitted diaper and he will feel the wetness. Not all diapers are like that, look into pocket or all-in-one systems they have a stay dry liner that keeps moisture off your baby.

  • I used prefolds and yes when they are wet, babys skin feels wet too. Its CLOTH. He shouldnt be soaking through THAT much though to where EVERYTHING gets wet and he leaks. He may need a bigger diaper that has a higher absorbancy...

  • Out of curiosity, what kind are you using and how long is he going between diaper changes?
