Health & Exercise

How soon after delivery did you work out ?

My Dr appointment isn't until 7wks pp. I was told no exercise or intercourse until 6wks.  I am ok with the no sex part, but I am thinking I will reschedule to an earlier date for the official OK, bc I am itching to start working out now...  I was thinking I could start slow with walks because I still feel a bit of soreness when I am standing for long periods.  I did work out through pregnancy up until 4 days before LO was born.

When did you start working out PP ?  What did you do to ramp up ?  Did you get the ok early from your Dr ?

TIA!

Re: How soon after delivery did you work out ?

  • I had a c-section and started "exercising" around 4 weeks PP.  By "exercise" I mean light yoga and walking.  I started the 30 day shred around 6 weeks - wasn't crazy about it, but could definitely do it.  I ended up going back to yoga and Pilates.  Now I also run.  I had no issues with bleeding or pain from "overdoing" it.

I didn't get the okay early, but I just started off light, listened to my body and went from there.  GL!

  • I had a natural birth (no tearing) and was told I had to wait until I was no longer bleeding to have sex and/or workout and to go at a speed I felt comfortable with.  So after about 1 1/2 weeks everything went back to regular schedule- workout and sex (I was just excited to start that back up as DH).  Like you I worked out before being pregnant and resumed my same workouts during my pregnancy up until the day.

  • I started going for walks and short hikes right away (within the week).  I had one c-section and one vaginal birth.

I didn't start official workouts until 6 weeks the first time (the c-section) and 5 weeks the second time.

  • When did you start working out PP ?  The day after delivery my OB had me doing hospital laps. I was cleared to do lighter exercise basically anything but running.

What did you do to ramp up ?After we left the hospital, I slowly increased intesisty in the following activities:   long walks up to 8  miles, yoga/ pilates, elliptical (on easy setting) and light weights.

Did you get the ok early from your Dr ? Full clearance came a 6 weeks.

  • My discharge papers said I could start walking/moderate exercise at 2 weeks so I did treadmill/elliptical and made sure to listen to my body. I went faster when I felt better. (My biggest lingering symptom was pelvic pressure so that was how I measured my intensity.) I added arms and chest weights but waited until 6 weeks to start lunges/squats or anything that required strain on the pelvic floor. I felt pretty much all normal by 8 or 9 weeks and do everything I used to now.
  • I started at about 2 weeks, after getting ok'd at my follow-up appt.

  • I started walking almost immediately.  I started running after my 6 week check up.  I was active pre-delivery.

  • I started walking two days after my easy vaginal delivery and running a week after. I ran a full marathon two months after delivery.

  • I had a painful recovery due to an episiotomy but I started walking on the treadmill at 3 weeks pp and started running after 6 weeks with clearance from my doctor.

  • How much weight did you gain during pregnancy?? I was also very physically active before getting pregnant and Im always curious how others that have my same addiction to working out, are during pregnancy.
