Yes I know there is a CD board, but I "know" you ladies and trust your opinons.
I'm ready to joing the CDing world. I thought learning all the wovens and carries was hard, and then I started trying to figure out CDs....OH MY!
OK I have a lot of Happy Heiny's one size on hold 5 prints, 7 solids...the mama is asking $168, is that a fair price? (I'm not sure if it includes insert or not)
I'm really torn between AIOs and Pocket diapers. I feel like I can find more cute print pocket diapers, which shouldn't matter, but what's the point in CDing if you can't have a cute fluffy butt ; )
Tell me your personal experience with these...what'd you love and hate? Same with velcro vs. snap.
What are your fave brands, and where can i find the cutest print diapers?
Thanks Ladies!
Re: CD ? Help me get started...PLEASE!
How used are the HHs? That's $14/each which seems a bit steep to me for used OS unless they're in fantastic condition, especially if they don't have the insert.
I personally prefer pockets over AIOs. With pockets you can change absorbency to suit your needs; plus, they don't take nearly as long to dry. I just stuff them as soon as they're dry so when it comes time to put them on, they're as convenient as an AIO.
We use mostly BG 4.0s with snaps, but I used some AIOs with snaps and pockets w/ aplix when DS was a newborn. I like that aplix is more easily adjustable, which is great for a OS since DS is currently b/w snaps and therefore more prone to leaks at either snap setting. However, the aplix on our Thirsties XS pockets was coming apart after less than 2 months of use, so I don't know if that's just the quality of the Thirsties or something that's true for aplix altogether. Also, now that DS is pulling on his diaper, I think he'd be able to get aplix diapers off easier than he could get off snaps, which could lead to quite a mess!
We love our BGs, but they don't have the cutest prints. We're keeping our stash basic so I won't be buying any more, but I do love the prints on Monkey Snuggles. Good luck!

Okay, I'm not real sure about the pricing question. It depends on the condition obviously whether or not it includes the inserts and what HH's sell for new. But I personally would not buy 12 of one type of diaper until I had tried them and was sure they worked for us. CDing is a pretty personal thing in that what works for one family or one baby's build doesn't for another.
Jillians Drawers and other websites have trials that you can do so you can try different diapers and see what works for you. I would recomend doing a couple of those first or buying 1 of a few different kinds of diapers and seeing what you like.
I personally like BG Elemental AIO and GroVia AI2 (with the cotton inserts) the best right now. However I had a period that a fitted with a cover worked really well for us too. I have pockets but find them a pain to stuff and I don't really use the adjustability of stuffing them more or less so they have no advantage for me.
Snaps last longer than hook & loop and are harder for LO to undo on their own but Hook & loop works quicker for when they are really squirmy. So I have some of both.
Good luck figuring out what works for you and welcome to a new addiction
I have mostly BG 3.0 OS and 4.0 OS with a few Fuzzibunz OS. All are pockets so I can only speak to the pocketing experience. Why I went with pockets was since you need to line dry diapers it is a heck of a lot faster to dry three seperate pieces than it is to line dry one thick thing. If you are in a pinch for time or space you can machine dry the inserts and still hang dry the outershells, something you cant do with a AIO. Plus it is nice to just be able to use as much stuffing as you need at that point in their development. For example the first month or so we had DD in cloth (started around 6 weeks old) we could get away with just using the newborn inserts in our BGs then when she got to about 3 months we switched to just to regular insert and then at about 4 1/2 - 5 months we ended up using both inserts, now at night we add one hemp insert as well since she is a heavy wetter. It's nice to be able to reduce the amount of laundy you have those first few months and the sizing isnt so huge then either.
I would avoid BG 3.0 used or new if I were you since the Aplix on them was a huge problem. The 4.0s have had that issue fixed so I wouldnt hesitate to buy them used if I could find them. I love my BG diapers in general but the 4.0 are definitly way better. I personally hate my FB OS because it is so hard to get a proper fit as they go thru growth spurts but once they slow down on the crazy growth spurts about 7 months they aren't so bad to have in your stash. Ultimatly I would do a diaper trial once your little one arrives. I didn't and I regret it, I love the diapers I have but I do wish I had tried out some other options before setting on 2 brands.
I would not buy the HHs- that is a lot for used diapers and you may not even like them. I prefer having a variety as I always like different ones for different occasions. I like the BGs pockets for going to daycare/in the diaper bag. I like fitteds for around the house since they are so bulky. I like BGs and Blueberry pockets more than Fuzzi Buns or Haute Pockets although I have those too. I also have some Wahmies OS- of all the pockets the BGs and Blueberries seem like they have held up the most and we are a little over 2 yrs of use. The fitteds that I like are B4s and GMs and Tiny Tush. I use either Thirsties covers or wool.
Good luck. I find it very easy to cd and I have been doing it since he was a few days old.
