Babies: 3 - 6 Months

5 mo jus woke screaming hysterically?

My 5 mo is very easy going, he rarely cries and sleeps well. Today we were out and about so he didn't get to nap too much but I put him down at 7 and at 7:30 he woke screaming. I picked him up and he still didn't calm down. He almost seemed like he was gagging but screamed everytime I tried to lay him down to open his sleeper and check to see if anything was pinching him or hurting him and to take his temperature. Finally, i gave him some Infacol for his tummy and then I picked Jim up and he had calmed down and he burped. After that, he was totally fine just way over tired. I pu him down and he's been sleekly for about half an hour. He had no fever and I don't feel any teeth coming in. I'm thinking it was a gas bubble? He has never done this before and it really scared me. Has this happened to anyone else? Do you think it was probably gas? Thanks for listening.

  • We've had this twice in the last week. Once about an hour after we laid LO down then the other morning at 6am. I think it's gas. You can lay your Lo over your knee and bounce lightly, or you can give a bath, run their tummy in a clockwise position. Those are all things I've tried.

  • Yes, that did happen to us. I put LO down and then 30 minutes later she just started screaming. And she rarely screams. I tried everything I could think of and it was like she didn't even know I was there. I was literally about to get in the car and take her to the hospital but DH was finally able to get her to stop. MIL said that DH had night terrors as a baby and when I came home and looked it up, it sounded exactly like what we had gone through. She hasn't had one since that, thank God.

It might not have been what happened with your LO, maybe it was just gas, but a lot of it sounds similar. I have never been that freaked out before, I seriously thought that something was majorly wrong.
  • Read my post below. DD was screaming for a half hour with a scream that I had never heard before. She was doing the same choking thing you explain. Isn't it the scariest thing in the world. It is so heartbreaking I'm sorry you had to go through this tonight too!

  • Thanks so much for responding. I feel a bit better but am still a little on edge waiting for it to happen again! My 3 up has had night terrors before. I didn't know babies could have them that young! Very interesting and good to know.

Oh gosh. I'm sorry you had to go through it too! Is your LO sleeping soundly now?
