Has anyone put a humidifier in their child's room when they have a cold - if so, which one did you use? My 9wk old son is starting to get one and I would like to pick one up if others used on and if you thought it helped.
I have a 12 day old little boy who is really congested and has a cough, I was told to get a humidifier to help him (they think it's from all the mucous from birth).
They told me to get a warm mist humidifier (vaporizer) if our home is cool, and a cool mist humidifier if our home is warm.
We have been using a cool mist humidifier in our room (baby sleeps in her bassinet in our room) for a few weeks now, because she always seems congested.
With my son, I used a Vicks warm mist vaporizer, and when I asked my daughters pedi about the difference, she said either was fine, the only difference was you could put the Vicks medicine in the Vicks one, which I did do for my son when he had a cold. Otherwise they both put moisture in the air and help with congestion.

DS (7 weeks) is always congested so I keep a cool mist humidifier running in his room practically all the time but especially at night. My pedi says she doesn't really like the Vicks vaporizers but I didn't ask her why (I'll ask her when I see her again). I also use a Vicks health monitor which dispays the temperature and relative humidity in the room at all times. I like it because sometimes I don't realize how humid the room is becomming from extended use of the humidifier. You want to not only make sure there is enough moisture but also not too much moisture in the air (can lead to mold and stuff like that).
