Cloth Diapering

Cloth wipes

I'm expecting in may and trying to do research on all the cloth diaper info. What kind of solution do people use with reusable wipes? I heard of some solution with olive oil, but not sure what the recipe is. Also has anyone had a problem with a warmer, I heard it could hold bacteria and give baby an infection.

Re: Cloth wipes

  • We've never used a warmer so I have no experience with that. We mainly just use plain water in a peri bottle, but will occasionally add tea tree and lavender essential oils to it. We keep one in a basket with a stack of wipes next to the changing table and one in a small wet bag with a few wipes in the diaper bag.

  • We use 2 cups water, 2 tablespoons olive oil, 2 tablespoons of a natural baby wash, and 2 drops of tea tree oil and put it into little spray bottles. You just gently shake it before you spray so it mixes together. Works great and it smells really good. I just spray it on a cloth wipe or sometimes directly on their bums.

  • I keep my wipes (cheap baby wash cloths from target) in a basket on the changing table. I have a spray bottle if tap water with them and wet them as I need them. If I remember, I'll add a drop of her baby shampoo, but plain tap water does just fine.

  • I use my wipe warmer to hold/warm my solution of water, tea tree oil, baby wash and honey (warm water works just fine though, you don't need some magic potion in there) - store cloth wipes in a basket, and wet as needed.

  • We do use a wipe warmer (Prince Lion Heart) and just plain old H2O.  DD's bottom has been just fine, clean and no rashes.  If you do store your wipes in a warmer with water just make sure to only put a days worth of wipes in there at a time and about the same amount of water.  If you have a ton of wipes just sitting in warm liquid for several days that's when you can get into some trouble.  We also bleach our wipes and inserts once a months just to kill any nasties that are hanging around.

  • I use water or heiny wash.  In the hospital they have you just use water, and it works fine.  No need for a wipe warmer, I've never even met anyone who has one.
