When can you pick up the heartbeat with Sonoline B Doppler?

I know it's still too early for me, but I got my Sonoline B doppler in the mail yesterday and I'm just wondering when I should try to pick up the heartbeat.  I looked through the instruction book but didn't see any guidelines on when it can be picked up.

  • I think the manufacturer guarantees it at 9 weeks.  You'll have to look really low though for it then and use a lot of gel.  Make sure your bladder is empty as well.  I didn't get mine until 15 weeks, so I haven't personally tried it before then.

  • The manufacturer says 10-12 weeks.  I was able to hear it briefly at 9w3d and for awhile on 9w4d.  I have not been able to find it since then.  I had a Dr. appt. today and they found it right away!

  • For me at 10 weeks. Works better for me on a empty bladder and really really low

  • Grats on finding the heartbeat! I got the same brand last week and have tried twice without luck (well I heard my own) but I'm just now 10 weeks 1 day so that may be the reason. How low is "low" when I'm searching around? I know it takes patience but I'd like to have somewhere to start the search so I'm not frustrated / anxious for hours. Mine did not come with gel so I have been using Aloe Vera gel. Someone on another board suggested body lotion as well. Any others that work for you ladies? I don't go back to the dr. until the 28th so it would be excellent to have that reassurance sooner.

Low as in the natural pubic hair line.  Sometimes even a bit lower.  That'll change too as the baby grows.  At 15 weeks, I found it just a few inches below my belly button.  Now (a whopping week later), it's almost up to my belly button.  However, my baby measured a week ahead at the last u/s (14 weeks) and I have a long uterus.

  • Wow, I didn't know to check that low Lol! Thanks for the info, Karen. Smile

  • Who knows... My OB couldn't even find DD's HB till 16 weeks.

  • I was able to pick it up with mine at around 9 weeks. For me it worked better with a full bladder... Also, it was definitely VERY low - like slightly below the pubic hair line and I had to spend a lot of time searching for it. Move the doppler slowly around the area and rotate it a bit as you move so the angle changes (you wont always find it if the doppler is straight up and down if that makes sense...). Once you find it once it will be easier the next time! Good luck!!!!
