I'm just thinking ahead, I plan to get pregnant at this time next year after my wedding.
A couple of months ago during a routine health check they found protein in my urine. It only showed up once, but there has never been a cause identified. When you aren't pregnant, this isn't common. I just had a third check done on Monday and I haven't got the results, but hopefully it hasn't showed up again. I have no history of kidney problems or diabetes.
Also, I am not overweight and I am active, yet I have high blood pressure every time I go to the doctors. I always blamed this on my anxiety at the doctors, since I'm always nervous of whatever I'm there for (pap, bloodwork, etc). But my doctor said we can't keep blaming it on nerves and that I might have to go on BP meds if I can't show her 3-4 low readings.
Anyway, I know these are the main symptoms of pre-e and I am wondering if I'm already a walking pregnancy risk? If these things (high BP and protein) are intermittent, could I still have a risky pregnancy? Some people with kidney disease have protein in urine and high BP, does anyone know what is done for them while they are pregnant?
Does anyone have any info on this, or should I just wait and talk to my doctor when I plan my pregnancy?
Re: Risk when pregnant
My cousin always has protein in her urine & they found the cause, but I believe they ended up doing a kidney biopsy.
Have you seen a nephrologist? (kidney dr) or have you just been seeing a regular MD? It may also be worth seeing a urologist. I would want to have clearance from both of those specialists before TTC.
I've only seen a regular MD because all of the doctors I've talked to about it (my work doctor, family doctor, walk-in clinic doctor) say it's not a big deal. It only showed up once. They don't think it's my kidneys malfunctioning, however, I still worry that whatever caused it to fluke will show again when I'm pregnant and cause pre-e.
I guess I'll have to talk to my doctor...or switch doctors to someone who will really look into it with me.
Thanks!
