NAPR: Swing question

LO often falls asleep for naps in his swing (i try to put him down for a nap and it doesnt work. He'll fall asleep on me but when i transfer him he wakes up).

once he is sound asleep in the swing i shut it off, it will wake him back up.

so i let the swing stay on during his nap, is this ok?  im not really looking at it from an AP perspective, but more so wondering if its bad for his inner ear to be swinging for an hour or longer!

Re: NAPR: Swing question

  • I am not sure why it would bad for their inner ear !?! My LO has been sleeping in her swing for the past 3 months for naps. She will not really nap anywhere else and almost always wakes up after the swing turns off. Ours goes for a max time of 90 minutes so I have to remember to go reset it or it will shut off and she'll wake up!! She's not had any ear infections or either. I don't let her swing on "high" , I only use the medium setting.

  • We used a low to medium setting for probably six months for one nap a day.  DS loved it, DH could get him to sleep, it was a wonderful tool for us.  And I truly believe napping in there is totally AP, any nap that leaves DS well rested is a good nap.  I have never heard of ear problems from it.  DS has decent balance and has never had an ear infection.
  • thanks Mamas!

i was shutting the swing off after i knew he was "good and asleep" (30 min+ in to the nap) and he'd wake as soon as it stopped moving... so now i guess i'll just let it swing!

Happy Baby = Happy Mama = Attached!
